Embryos were collected by bleaching and were grown on a standard nematode growth medium (NGM) plate at room temperature. Young adults were placed in a control M9 buffer (3 g KH2PO4, 6 g Na2HPO4, 5 g NaCl, and 1 ml of 1 M MgSO4 in 1.0 L dH2O and autoclaved) with or without 400mM ethanol solution. Swimming behavior was video-recorded for 1 min. from the 10 min. time point. Frequency of swim bends was measured for 20 sec. To minimize the influence of swimming differences on the ethanol sensitivity, we calculated a mean relative swimming (treated average bends/untreated average bends × 100).
