instruments designed to determine if respondents meet a diagnostic threshold (i.e., determining the ideal cut score for identifying those with ODD is likely to be a futile exercise). Additionally, because dimensional constructs likely result from the combination of multiple etiological factors, research on the etiology and treatment of ODD should focus on identifying various risk factors that may contribute to the development of this set of behaviors, instead of focusing on a single causal factor. Furthermore, research on ODD does not need to be limited to clinical samples. Instead, community samples that include the full range ODD severity may help inform this literature.
