Effective treatments for AUD are now available, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, oral naltrexone, and long-acting injectable naltrexone, among others (58,59). These treatments are capable of saving lives, relationships, and careers, as well as minimizing medical comorbidities. Specific treatment and/or monitoring might be considered for adolescents and young adults in high-risk subgroups who are already drinking and manifesting problematic alcohol use patterns, such as binge drinking.
