These findings also suggest that a great deal of the variance in peer influence processes can be explained without any consideration of whether a given peer was or was not using highly pressuring influence tactics. Peer influences, rather than simply being determined by the caricatured behavior of a highly pressuring teen, appear to reflect complex transactional processes involving adolescents' family, peer, and developmental backgrounds.
