Tissue and cell type enrichment analysis revealed significant enrichment of OCD SNP-heritability in several tissues and cell types, with the strongest enrichment in excitatory neurons of hippocampus and cerebral cortex, and in dopamine D1 receptor (D1R)-positive and dopamine D2 receptor (D2R)-positive medium spiny neurons (MSNs) in the striatum. These findings are in line with traditional neural circuitry models of OCD, which focus on frontal cortical-striatal pathways68,69. These findings are consistent with and build on previous work linking various neuronal cell types to psychiatric and cognitive phenotypes70.
