The reductions in delta-gamma and theta-gamma PAC during alcohol intoxication that they report contrast sharply with the greater PAC we saw, particularly among men with AUD. Though direct comparisons are not possible from the results of this study since we only have data acquired from participants while in a sober state, one wonders whether the AUD-associated increases in theta-gamma PAC might reflect compensatory neuroadaptations arising from years of repeated exposure to alcohol, though future studies will be needed to cast more light on these issues.
