In addition to the high prevalence of depression, it has also been found that depressive disorders in students may be associated with the use of addictive substances such as alcohol, cigarettes, or cannabis, especially in the case of severe depression [80]. Simultaneously, Sebena et al. [81] examined the associations between perceived stress, depressive symptoms, and alcohol consumption in university students from Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, the UK, and the Slovak Republic, and their findings revealed that perceived stress and depressive symptoms were associated with problem drinking. Thus, alcohol consumption significantly enters into the issue of mental health of university students.
