Depression and anxiety disorders have been more frequently reported to be associated with inflammatory bowel disease [31], but previous studies were not able to establish a strong association of bipolar disorder with Crohn’s disease. Nevertheless, we found a marginally higher likelihood of a co-diagnosis of Crohn’s disease in females than males.
