Differences in baseline characteristics were evaluated using the two-sample t-test for continuous variables and Fisher’s exact test for categorical variables. The unadjusted cumulative incidence of suicide attempt over the course of follow-up was calculated from the Kaplan–Meier product-limit estimator, and the significance of the overall difference in stratified survival functions was assessed with the log-rank test. The median duration of follow-up was based on the Kaplan–Meier survival function with reverse censoring.
