Consent was obtained in person as well as over the phone. The GTEx project included a sub-study that evaluated the attitudes and concerns of family decision-makers regarding the consent process and other ethical issues concerning the donation process.6 This sub-study provides information to help ensure that the project effectively addresses the concerns and expectations of the study participants. This sub-study also created and provided novel training materials for consenting personnel, in order to improve interactions with and understanding of donor families.
