Text

The focus of the study on PAC activity within a single EEG channel does preclude any determination of the source of PAC, as either arising within local mPFC networks or driven by the activity of distal brain networks, that a multi-channel approach could deliver. However, the decision to restrict investigation to the frontomedial channel FZ represented a trade-off in service of the primary objective of the study, based on the absence of any other published studies on PAC in AUD, to identify any PA domains associated with AUD that could be targeted in follow-up investigations. Single channel analysis allowed us to reduce the considerable computing demands required to generate comodulograms for the 700+ participants represented in this study, providing greater confidence in the precision and accuracy of PAC estimates represented in the high resolution comodulogram data on which the cluster analyses were conducted.
