All data are displayed as the means +/- SEM unless otherwise noted. Dose–response data was fitted using a sigmoidal function with variable slope (Prism 5, GraphPad Software, San Diego, CA). Where more than 2 groups were employed, ANOVA analysis was applied with the Tukey test applied post-hoc. Pair-wise correlations and the corresponding p values were calculated using R (http://www.r-project.org). The p values were then adjusted using the Benjamini-Hochberg method to control for false-discovery rate [56].
