The following questions were used to ascertain exposure to the traumatic events included in this analysis : (1) ‘Were you EVER in a serious or life threatening accident?’; (2) ‘Were you EVER in a serious fire, tornado, flood, earthquake or hurricane?’; (3) ‘Were you EVER sexually assaulted, molested or raped or did you EVER experience unwanted sexual activity?’; (4) ‘Not counting a terrorist attack, did someone very close to you EVER die unexpectedly, for example, they were killed in an accident, murdered, committed suicide or had a fatal heart attack?’
