After establishing the presence of social genetic effects for educational attainment, we conducted path analyses to examine the roles of parental educational attainment, income and parenting (parental bonding) in mediating the social genetic effects. We started by conducting path models where parental educational attainment and income were specified as the mediating pathways for the social genetic effects (see Figure 2). In these models, parental education polygenic score was specified as predicting offspring educational attainment directly and indirectly through parental educational attainment and income, above and beyond the effect of offspring education polygenic score.
