Parents completed the 10-item Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT, Saunders et al., 1993). This measure screens for excessive alcohol consumption, drinking behavior, adverse psychological reactions, and alcohol related problems. One additional item was added to the survey, “Have you felt you have a drinking problem?” All responses were summed. Parents were also asked to respond to the same set of items asking about their partner. Responses to both sets of items at both time points were averaged.3
