Secondary analyses using the broader COGA criteria for alcohol dependence provided evidence for association; a total of 13 SNPs, including 8 concentrated in the region from intron 1 of GABRR2 upstream to a part of UBE2J1 that was in LD with the 5′ region of GABRR2, and 2 in the region from just upstream to intron 1 of GABRR1 (Table 2, Figure 2).
