These results provide, to the best of our knowledge, the first experimental evidence of differences in gene expression between mature astrocytes and SVZ astrocytes in the adult human brain. Furthermore, our findings indicate that differences in module membership for M13C and M15 can be used to identify gene expression patterns that distinguish these subpopulations of cells, providing an important new set of molecular tools with which to investigate the adult neurogenic niche.
