Using this information, we calculated the number of drinks consumed on days when a participant had (i) the largest number of drinks, (ii) an intermediate number of drinks, and (iii) a typical number of drinks. For calculating frequency values, we used the following equivalents based on taking the midpoint of the range and converting it into days per month: “every day” = (7*52)/12, “5 to 6 times/wk” = (5.5*52)/12, “3 to 4 times/wk” = (3.5*52)/12, “1 to 2 times/wk” = (1.5*52)/12, “2 to 3 times/month” = 2.5, “1 time/month” = 1, “7 to 11 times/y” = 9/12, “3 to 6 times/y” = 4.5/12, “2 times/y” = 2/12, “once/y” = 1/12 and “never” =0, For calculating quantity values, we used the typical and maximum reported by the participant. The intermediate was the midpoint of the quantity category one lower than the maximum (e.g., 5 if their maximum drinks were 7). Individuals who never drank more than their “typical” amount were assigned frequencies of 0 for the other categories. Weighting these 3 quantity estimates by their frequencies produced an estimate of the
