The complete Behavior Problem Index (BPI: NLSY, 1979) was administered to two of the target adolescent’s teachers. In the release forms signed by the adolescent’s parents and initialed by the adolescent, they were asked to provide the names of two math, social science, or language arts teachers who then completed the BPI. The reports from the two teachers were correlated for internalizing (r = .45) and externalizing (r = .60) and were averaged into a single scale for internalizing, and a single scale for externalizing. Both scales had acceptable reliability (α > .75).
