evidence for (linear) age effects on past-year drinking, nor that current age altered the association between onset age and past-year drinking patterns, as would have suggested systematic recall bias. Second, our sample comprises Caucasian twins born in Virginia. Our findings may not generalize to individuals of other ethnic or cultural backgrounds. Third, as discussed earlier, we are limited in our ability to make conclusions about the direction of causality between SLE and drinking. Data on more closely timed assessments of SLE and drinking are needed to address this question more fully.
