Text

Item response theory (IRT) modeling provides a quantitative tool for mapping involvement with multiple substances onto an underlying dimension. A two-parameter logistic IRT model is defined by item discrimination (a) and item location (b) parameters for each item. These parameters indicate how each item relates to the underlying dimension (see Embretson & Reise, 2000, for a thorough description of IRT).
