Current work is in progress to expand the patient sample, to examine microRNA expression, to determine the extent to which patterning can be influenced by growth factors42,43 or by the complex three-dimensional microenvironment of the differentiating and mature brain, with the longer term goals of developing new animal models, and ultimately to identify new therapeutic approaches to this intractable disorder.
