GWA analyses were conducted in each cohort using linear regression (additive model, with sex and age as covariates) with the aim to identify single common genetic variants that influence neuroticism in both men and women of different ages. Depending on the characteristics of the cohort, additional covariates such as PCs were added. Different software packages were used to run the association analysis (see eTable 2). Uncertainty of the imputed genotypes was taken into account. In those cohorts that included related individuals, the dependency among participants was accounted for.
