There may be multiple pathways to the coexistence of ADHD symptoms and FASD, so there may be different subsets of ADHD and FASD.6,32 The relationship between ADHD and FASD may be coincidental because ADHD is a common disorder affecting up to 11% of children in the general population. Adults with ADHD are more likely to drink alcohol, thus pregnant women with ADHD who drink alcohol during pregnancy may genetically transmit ADHD to their offspring.6
