regard to self-help group attendance, but barriers to participation in AA / self-help groups may have more to do with motivation issues, readiness for change, and lower perceived need for help (Laudet, 2003), indicating that clinicians can use treatment modalities such as Twelve-Step Facilitation (Litt, Kadden, Kabela-Cormier, & Petry, 2007) to support millennial clients in overcoming these barriers. In addition, treatment facilities might tailor treatment options to millennials to offer a range of options that mirror the benefits of mutual aid groups, including peer support specialists and group treatment.
