To conduct our analyses we included data from three previous studies of depression 5, 8, 9. For the UK Biobank study 5 slightly different quality control was applied and the data were reanalysed. For the other two studies the summary statistics were obtained directly from the respective authors. No statistical methods were used to pre-determine sample sizes but our sample sizes are similar to those reported in previous publications 5, 8, 9. All data distributions were assumed to be normal but this was not formally tested. Further information regarding each of these cohorts is provided below.
