Text

Accordingly, this study uses data from the 2001–2002 National Epidemiological Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC), a nationally representative United States survey, to examine the relationship between childhood or adolescent parental divorce/separation, parental alcohol problems, and offspring DSM-IV lifetime alcohol dependence. We addressed the following questions: 1) after controlling for parental alcohol problems, does childhood or adolescent parental divorce/separation affect the risk for offspring DSM-IV lifetime alcohol dependence? and 2) is there an interaction effect of childhood or adolescent parental divorce/separation and parental alcohol problems on offspring DSM-IV lifetime alcohol dependence?
