have found ancillary benefits to MMT continuation post-release, including reduced HIV transmission (Larney & Dolan, 2009), a significantly longer time to re-arrest (Westerberg, McCrady, Owens, & Guerin, 2016), and greater treatment engagement after release, which could in turn reduce the risk of death from drug-related risk behaviors and overdose (Rich et al., 2015). Given the known risks associated with MMT discontinuation post-release, efforts to provide MMT to OUD individuals during transitions from custodial to community settings are crucial.
