Other studies, however, show positive associations between slow wave activity and cognitive performance. Finnigan and Robertson19 examined healthy seniors (>56 years old) and showed positive relations between resting theta and measures of immediate and delayed verbal recall, attention and executive function. A recent study41 showed that in healthy older adults, targeted cognitive training using a rich multimodal videogame induced increases in midline theta power and long-range theta coherence between frontal and posterior brain regions, significant improvement in the training regime and generalization of learning to untrained cognitive control skills.
