One degree of freedom tests are Cochran-Armitage tests for trend alternatives, extended to pool information across multiple studies or across multiple strata within a single study by the method described by Mantel24. The two degree of freedom tests follow similar principles. Testing for association with SNPs on the X chromosome was carried out using the method proposed by Clayton25.
