Beginning with probands, as shown in the alcohol challenge column of Table 1, zero-order correlations for the alcohol challenges from about age 23 with the SRE scores gathered at about age 37 were all in the predicted direction such that lower alcohol challenge values correlated with a higher number of drinks needed for effects. All these correlations were significant except for SRE-5 (SRE-5, p = 0.07). Correlations among the SRE scores ranged between 0.46 and 0.93 (the latter was for SRE-H to SRE-T), and SRE scores correlated significantly with the past 5-year maximum drinks and alcohol problems both cross-sectionally at Time 1 and prospectively at Time 2 for all SRE values except for SRE-5.
