FACS sorting was also used to determine cell-type specific changes after LPS administration, revealing that LPS-altered genes in certain cell types were not found in whole tissue preparations (Srinivasan et al., 2016). Moreover, the overall direction of change in gene expression was also cell-type specific (e.g. down-regulated in microglia but up-regulated in astrocytes) (Srinivasan et al., 2016).
