In this review, we will focus on genetic influence on “normal” or typical brain development from neonates to young adulthood, and will summarize current results conducted in pediatric populations linking brain imaging to genetics. We will concentrate specifically on age-by-gene or gene-by-heritability interactions, since age-related changes in heritability may be linked to the timing of gene expression. Knowledge of when a given brain structure is particularly sensitive to genetic or environmental influences during development may also have important educational and therapeutic implications.
