To evaluate the relationship between alcohol intake and different indicators of WM integrity at the regional level, we estimate linear regressions to quantify the association of alcohol intake with 375 IDPs, including FA, MD, ICVF, ISOVF, and OD measures extracted via averaging parameters across 74 WM tract regions45. Of the 375 WM microstructure IDPs, 179 (47.7%) are significantly associated with alcohol intake (see Supplementary Table 4). Generally, alcohol intake is related to lower coherence of water diffusion, lower neurite density, and higher magnitude of water diffusion, indicating less healthy WM microstructure with increasing alcohol intake.
