childhood physical abuse (4 questions), permission to contact family members, a surviving parent, and at least 1 additional potentially available sibling (2 were required if only a single twin had participated in the cohort II assessment). The inclusion criteria for control families were identical other than the requirement that no interviewed twin had endorsed either form of abuse. A random-number generator program was used to select high-risk and control families frequency matched on the basis of age, sex, zygosity, and family structure. All high-risk families in which a male twin reported a history of CSA were preferentially recruited because of the lower prevalence of CSA in males.
