prominent physiological patterns in these regions can reveal organizational principles through which the brain utilizes specific activity patterns for local information processing in the context of long-range communication across regions. Multiple experimental and analytical approaches must be combined for this goal, and can potentially serve as a template to study long-range interaction in other systems. Further, dissecting the functional role of multiple modes of hippocampal-prefrontal coordination in memory-guided behavior also has the potential to provide a foundation to link specific impairments in long-range co-ordination to cognitive deficits. Since the hippocampus and PFC are implicated in many neurological disorders, this could provide novel insight into the pathophysiology of these disorders.
