Since 1985, binge drinking has been queried as the number of days in the past 30 days in which an individual has consumed five or more drinks on any one occasion. In the 1979 survey, individuals were asked about the largest number of drinks they had in any one day in the past 30 days. These questions were used to determine the prevalence of individuals who had drank five drinks in a day, at least once in the past 30 days.
