and variance of the second‐order factor were set to zero and one, respectively. Then, we fit more restrictive (nested) models that equated the measurement structures across male and female groups (factor loadings and thresholds for the first‐order factors; factor loadings and intercepts for the second‐order factor) and tested for significant differences in the fit of the more restrictive models to the fit of the baseline model using the difference test option in Mplus (for which the only meaningful statistic provided is the P‐value) (Muthen and Muthen 1998).
