second language among patients, this group difference failed to account for the observed task-related differences of left parietal ERP old/new effects between patients and controls, which is in accordance with other ERP and fMRI evidence indicating that age of language acquisition is of lesser importance than initially suggested (e.g., Friederici et al., 2002; Kotz, 2009). Although patients performed more poorly than healthy controls, their overall task performance was nevertheless adequate. Moreover, the ERP analysis was restricted to correct trials, which largely eliminates concerns that a generalized performance deficit in schizophrenia rather than a specific impairment in episodic memory was a major contributor to the current findings.
