While developing correction factors that could be applied to self-reported data to eliminate, or at least lessen, the biases in BMIs associated with self-reported height and weight is an attractive idea [14], the few attempts that have been made [15,16] are discouraging. Use of additional variables beyond self-reported height and weight provides only small improvements in the prediction of measured BMI scores and does not appear to eliminate biases associated with the size of the measured BMI [16].
