Depressive symptoms were measured at 18 years of age with a self-reported version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale,47 which includes 11 items scored on a 4-point scale. The scale has good psychometric properties.48 Internal consistency of the scale was Cronbach α = 0.87.
