Consistent with the social support buffering hypothesis (Cohen & Wills, 1985), our findings extend the literature to suggest that the relations between individuals’ risk predispositions, indexed by both genetic risk and genetically influenced traits such as sensation seeking and alcohol use are stronger for adults with lower levels of perceived social support.
