One interesting implication of our results is that while higher-order functional data is very useful for gleaning insight into to the genetic architecture of human diseases genome-wide [20], [23], a critical component of accuracy in a fine-mapping study is the sample size (see Table S8). Consequently, the success of a fine-mapping experiment may hinge on first obtaining an adequate sample size and then augmenting that sample size with functional data. These findings are largely in-line with what was previously reported in the context of GWAS [10].
