baseline was for the full sample that included both men who did and did not develop an AUD for these subjects half of whom had a FH of alcohol dependence. The 30 year old subjects at T10 had an average of ~4 drinks per drinking occasion and an average of ~17 drinking days in the past month; they reported an average of 14.0 maximum drinks (SD=5.0) on an occasion and an average of 23.8 drinking days (SD=6.5) in their heaviest month of drinking. At T10, > 40% of these men with a lifetime alcohol use disorder were also current smokers and a similar percent met criteria for an additional lifetime drug use disorder (21% cocaine dependence; 12% marijuana dependence; 6% marijuana abuse; 2% cocaine abuse; 2% amphetamine abuse). As shown toward the bottom of Table 1, 60% of these men met criteria for a period of remission (i.e. they did not met AUD criteria for at least one interval period of ~5 years) at some point following T10, while 45% met criteria for sustained remission from AUD (i.e. they did not met AUD criteria prior to and lasting through their last assessment).
