Finally, bioinformatic analysis identifies a perfect proxy, rs174545 (r2=1 with rs174550), whose glucose-raising allele abolishes a predicted miR-124 target site (see Online Methods). Taken together, these data support the hypothesis that not only fatty acid levels, but also their precise composition and degree of desaturation, may influence glucose homeostasis.
