Beyond retinoblastoma, riboSNitches have also been found in the H19 gene, a long non-coding RNA involved in several cancers. Li and colleagues observed that rs2839698 GA/AA genotypes increase the risk of colorectal cancer in the Chinese populations compared with the GG genotype. Interestingly, the A allele generates an important conformational change in the folding structure of H19 that may cause the loss of the target binding site for some miRNAs, while creating a binding site for other miRNAs.89
