scientists from 11 countries and 48 institutions having GWAS datasets on ADHD, autism, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and major depression (Psychiatric GWAS Consortium Steering Committee 2009). The PGC investigators have agreed to participate in coordinated mega-analyses both within and across disorders. Within 1 year, it is to be expected that a collaborative GWAS with more than 4,000 cases can be carried out via the PGC for ADHD. It is this spirit of collaboration that we believe will be needed to achieve the breakthroughs in genetic research that will ultimately help us discover new pathophysiological pathways and targets for treatment.
