Note that peak levels of nascent (35S-labeled) E-cadherin at the cell surface occurred at 1 h, and by 4 h, the nascent cadherin was either moving off the surface or getting degraded. The timing is consistent with the 4-h time point in Fig. 5 a, which marks the first interval where degradation of the unbound cadherin sharply accelerates. Clearly, E-cadherin transits normally to the surface in the absence of p120, but is then rapidly turned over.
