An analysis of the relevant literature shows that the topographic distribution of the face-specific N170 is not always right-sided in right-handed individuals. Based on a thorough review of methods and subject samples used in the relevant literature (see Table 1), we hypothesized that this topographic distribution might depend on marked inter-individual differences, possibly related to viewer gender.
