Consistent with human evidence of heightened adolescent sensation seeking, adolescent rodents prefer novelty (Adriani et al., 1998; Douglas et al., 2003; Stansfield et al., 2004), exhibit greater novelty-induced locomotion (Stansfield and Kirstein, 2006; Sturman et al., 2010), and spend more time exploring open arms in an elevated plus maze than adults (Adriani et al., 2004; Macrì et al., 2002).
